The Muralist by B.A. Shapiro is a historical fiction novel that intertwines the story of a missing 1940s artist, Alizée Benoit, with her great-niece, Danielle Abrams, in the present day, as Danielle uncovers clues to Alizée's disappearance through hidden paintings. Set against the backdrop of the Depression-era art world and the dawn of Abstract Expressionism, the book explores themes of art, politics, and the plight of Jewish refugees trying to escape WWII Europe, featuring real historical figures like Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackson Pollock, and Mark Rothko.
